Health care coverage: prescription drug refills
Author: Susan A. Bonilla
This bill, intended to increase adherence to prescription medication, has three components. First, it allows patients to opt-out of a mandatory mail order program if they prefer to obtain their prescription drugs from a community pharmacy. Second, it streamlines prescription medication refills by allowing pharmacists to place the patient’s medications on the same refill schedule. Finally, it allows patients who run out of prescription eye medications because of accidental spillage causing them to use more than 70% of their eye drops to be eligible for an early refill.
