SB 1593 - Health Care Coverage: Children's Initiatives

Summary - The bill would require that, upon the date that eligibility for enrollment in the Healthy Families Program or the Medi-Cal program is expanded, as specified, enrollment in those programs of the newly eligible population be initially limited to eligible children receiving coverage through local children's health initiatives, as specified. The bill would create the Children's Health Care Fund in the State Treasury to be administered by the State Department of Health Care Services, in coordination with the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board, and would require that moneys deposited in the fund be used, upon appropriation by the Legislature, for the purpose of maintaining children's health initiatives until eligible children receiving coverage through those initiatives are enrolled in the Healthy Families Program or the Medi-Cal program.
