CHI NEWS: CHI Appoints Associate Director, Federal Government Relations And Programs
(LA JOLLA, Calif., Apr. 1, 2013) – The California Healthcare Institute (CHI) announced today the appointment of Jennifer Nieto Carey as associate director of federal government relations and programs based in CHI’s Washington, D.C. Office. CHI is a non-profit public policy research and advocacy organization for California’s biomedical R&D industry.
As associate director of federal government relations and programs, Carey assists CHI’s Washington, D.C. office in the development and implementation of outreach/education and legislative advocacy programs, as well as building and maintaining alliances with CHI member companies, partner associations and other affiliate organizations. She joins Todd Gillenwater, senior vice president for public policy, who leads CHI’s D.C. operations.
“With her experience on the Hill and knowledge of our industry, Jenny is a strong addition to the CHI team and will help us raise our industry’s profile in Washington, D.C.,” said CHI President and CEO David L. Gollaher, Ph.D. “This is a critical time to strengthen our advocacy of California’s biomedical industry. The implementation of the Affordable Care Act, pressure on NIH science funding, ongoing FDA regulatory challenges, and increasing coverage and payment challenges – for all these issues the California congressional delegation is more important than ever.”
Before joining CHI, Carey spent six years at FaegreBD Consulting, where she served as assistant vice president of health and biosciences and worked with a range of health and life science sector clients on legislative and policy issues before Congress, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other state and federal agencies including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health. Prior to that, she served in the office of Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Palo Alto) for four years, rising through the ranks to ultimately serve as the congresswoman’s health policy advisor. Carey holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Davis.
