Carl Hull joined Gen-Probe Inc. in February 2007 as executive vice president and chief operating officer responsible for Gen-Probe's major operating functions including research and development, manufacturing and sales and marketing. He became president and CEO in May 2009 and was appointed to the additional post of chairman of the board in January 2012.

From January 2005 to January 2007, he served as vice president and general manager of the real-time PCR business of Applied Biosystems, which develops and sells genomic research systems and reagents. Prior to joining Applied Biosystems, Hull held a number of positions with Applied Imaging Corp., which makes automated imaging and imaging analysis systems, serving as its CEO from January 2001 to December 2004. Prior to joining Applied Imaging in 1997, he held a variety of marketing and sales management positions at Ventana Medical Systems and Abbott Laboratories, both in the United States and internationally.

Hull serves on the boards of Gen-Probe, AdvaMed Dx and the San Diego Economic Development Corporation (EDC).

He received a bachelor's degree in political science and international relations from The Johns Hopkins University and a master's in business administration from the University of Chicago.
