Submitted on:

Bill Hawkins, chairman and chief executive officer of CHI member company Medtronic, released a statement on the U.S. Senate’s revised medical device industry tax proposal. On Nov. 19, the U.S. Senate reduced the Senate Finance Committee’s proposed fee on the medical device industry from $40 billion to $20 billion. In the release, Hawkins applauds California Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, Governor Schwarzenegger, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, and CHI for their efforts in reducing the fee, which he says will ultimately protect innovation and jobs while advancing healthcare reform. Hawkins says his company is encouraged by the progress of the healthcare reform proposals and looks forward to working closely with both houses to ensure the medical device industry continues to deliver life-saving treatments and improving the quality of care for millions of people around the world.
