David E.I. Pyott, CBE
Chairman, President & CEO
Allergan

bod_florentino_lg.jpg David E.I. Pyott joined Allergan on January 1, 1998, as President and Chief Executive Officer. In 1998, he refocused the company’s strategy on specialty pharmaceuticals as well as restructuring Allergan’s worldwide operations. Savings from these streamlining programs were reinvested into a major expansion of R&D and sales forces worldwide. Further focusing of Allergan on creating leading specialty pharmaceutical franchises, in ophthalmology, neurosciences, medical dermatology, medical aesthetics and other specialty markets, was realized in 2002 with the spin off of the ophthalmic surgical device and contact lens care businesses into Advanced Medical Optics, Inc., a separate, publicly traded company. In March 2006, Allergan acquired Inamed Corp. for approximately $3 billion to create the world’s largest medical aesthetics company. Pyott was elected to the position of Chairman of the Board of Allergan in April 2001. Pyott currently holds the titles of Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer.

In addition, in June 2006, Pyott was bestowed with the honor of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty the Queen in acknowledgment of Pyott’s contribution to British business excellence and management skills in the United States.

Before joining Allergan, Pyott served as the Head of the Novartis Nutrition Division and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Switzerland-based Novartis AG.

Pyott joined Sandoz in 1980 working in several positions in strategic planning and in marketing in Switzerland and then Malaysia/Singapore. He was appointed as General Manager in Austria, then in Spain; and as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sandoz Nutrition Corporation in the United States. In 1995 Pyott was appointed Head of the Sandoz Nutrition Division and also became a Member of the Executive Board of Sandoz. After the merger with CIBA-Geigy, Pyott became Head of the Novartis Nutrition Division.

He holds a Diploma in German and European Law from the Europa Institute at the University of Amsterdam, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Edinburgh, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the London Business School.

Pyott is a member of the Board of Directors of Avery Dennison Corporation, Edwards Lifesciences Corporation and Pacific Life. He serves on the Board and the Executive Committee of the California Healthcare Institute, the Directors’ Board of The Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California (Irvine) and is Chair of the Chief Executive Roundtable for UCI. Pyott also serves as a member of the Board of the Pan-American Ophthalmological Foundation, the International Council of Ophthalmology Foundation, the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation, the Biotechnology Industry Organization and the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Advisory Board.
