Robert (Chip) Hance is president of Abbott Vascular, a leader in cardiac and vascular care with global headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif. Abbott Vascular is a division of Abbott, a global, diversified healthcare company devoted to the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals and medical products, including nutritionals, devices and diagnostics. Abbott employs approximately 83,000 employees worldwide and is one of the largest medical device R&D/manufacturers in California, with 7,000 employees across eight operating divisions in the state.

Hance joined Abbott in 1989 and held a number of management positions in Abbott's diagnostics division. He began in the interventional cardiology field in 2002, as head of Perclose, and led Abbott's vascular devices division until 2006, where he oversaw the development and launch of several key new cardiovascular technologies. Prior to his current position, Hance served as president of Abbott's Diabetes Care business from 2007 to 2008. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
