Congressional Democrats Renewing Pressure on Direct-to-Consumer Advertising

Congressional Democrats are renewing pressure on the drug industry's direct-to-consumer advertising. Last year, Democrats lost a fight over proposals to strengthen government regulation of TV commercials for prescription drugs. However, recent ads for anticholesterol drugs Vytorin and Lipitor have sparked a new battle for Democrats on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Congress fears less strict limits on drug marketing may possibly lead to questionable marketing tactics.
